U.S. Military Bases in Europe Raise Alert Level

The level of force protection was raised due to terrorist threats.

This week, the Defense Department confirmed that U.S. commanders in Europe raised several military base threat levels to the second-highest state of alert.

“U.S. European Command is taking steps to increase vigilance for our service members, their families and our facilities,” Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said during a briefing. “This was done out of an abundance of caution. I won’t get into more specifics.”

The U.S. military uses the Force Protection Condition system to establish consistent levels of readiness for its troops and bases. U.S. European Command elevated its condition level to “Charlie” last weekend.

The spokesperson added, “There are a combination of factors, including events that are taking place in the theater that, just out of due diligence, it is good to make sure that our service members are taking the precautionary measures that they need for themselves and their families.”

This statement may refer to increased global vigilance ahead of the Paris Summer Olympic Games.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Pentagon officials as they provide recommendations to the president and defense secretary.
  • For U.S. commanders in Europe as they increase the force protection level as a precaution against terror threats.
